Indiana Pestle
I found this pestle in Union Co. Indiana a few years ago. It fits in the hand perfectly. It has met the disc and plow a number of times but, remained intact. The bottom of this piece, unlike many that I have seen, is not dimpled.
I think that pestles are not properly appreciated. In my opinion (in my parts) they are quite uncommon and you will find many points, axes, and celts before you find one of these.

Re: Indiana Pestle
Thanks D,
I have found a couple pestles. Most of the others were not much more than boulders broken in half with the broken area ground smooth (often times showing a dimple much like a pit or "nutting" stone). Good luck out there.

Re: Indiana Pestle
Boy that would have been a huge artifact. A guy I know found one that size east of here that was perfect. They were digging a drainage ditch near the river and he spotted it.

you arent kidding chuck,I about crapped when i walked up on this in a field last year.I was hoping to find the other half this year but the guy planted beans this year and i didnt get in that field before he planted, kicking myself in the butt for that.i am almost positive that the plow broke this piece judging by the scar on one side of it,the rest of it has to be in that field and it wont be hard to find because of the size.just hope it isnt in a bunch of little pieces.that guy you know had to crapp his pants when he dug it up.is he a collector?
