a complete pot (almost)......more pics added
about 15 yrs ago a part of the bank of the old creek channel caved in and exposed this pot
tried to find all the pieces but you know that is next to impossible
so now here is the best I could do to try to put back it together, and probably ever will do as far as finding such a small one

Re: a complete pot (almost)
Nice find, the small impression on the first pic (looks like it was done with a thumb), is it functional or decorative? (Functional as in to grasp the pot better) Hope this isn't a silly question, just trying to get a better overall understanding.

Re: a complete pot (almost)
blacksheep, maybe when the pot was getting ready to be fired or hardened
the maker could have grabbed it right there and made those marks
funny thing blacksheep, I never noticed that after 15 years
thanks for the observation, I will look at the marks again

Larson,
That you have restored this pot to this condition is in itself incredible. Finding that many pieces is fantastic. The Gods must surely be with you.

Do any of your pot sherds have fingerprints in them? I have read of Greek amphora that still have ancient fingerprints.

Re: a complete pot (almost)......more pics added
black sheep the marks are more like pinch marks made with a finger and thumb
they are located every 90 degrees around the widest part of the pot, put there to hold a rope to hang it
GL look at my post titled (4 pottery pictures) and you can see the marks show that they were put there with a finger, you can see the makers fingernail print (but no finger print)
