a few more single notched points

here are a couple more agate along with some KRF and a chert all with one notch
I will try to dig up a few more
I have a friend that has about 6-10 of these also
the fourth image shows 2 more on the bottom center, I have already posted them under "agate points"
between my friend and I we have about 20 or so which is why I don't think they are unfinished
after all, some points have 2 notches and some have none, so why not one notch?
I have 2 points that have 4 notches (third image)

Neat little things. Tiny knives? Like Indian exacto blades?

Spectacular! Would love to use one of those bowhunting this season! How awesome would that be to harvest your deer/elk with an arrowhead from long ago............. Look forward to seeing more!

    Single-notched

Hay there Larson ,... so some more of these odd little points ? Yeah ,.. I think I’m going too agree with you ,... 20 or so between your buddy and you ,.. Odd’s are that there “Just” not finished is a slim one,.. at best !! Looking at all of them you’ve posted now ,... not one,.. Can you say “Oh , there’s a flaw in that one’s material or workmanship”, no apparent reason to toss ‘em ? Appears they are made this way .
But why ? I’ve been asking myself the last day or two,.. I think these little odd points are intriguing !! I couldn’t think of an advantage to “hafting” a point to a shaft , with the sinew pulling to one side , it would seem a disadvantage ? Was this a “special” use arrow , does this help with arrow spin / is this even desirable ??maybe the answer to all this is “NO” and best answered “why not”?
Anyway , was kind of hoping that Runtee or Quito [where is he??] could shine in here ?
I had a look at “Projectilepoints.net”,on the outside chance of getting a name /age ,.. But found nothing, ..other then the two “double-notched” points ,maybe are “Huffaker’s”/ 1000-500 B.P.

Anyway ,.. Thanks for the “food for thought” Larson ,... nice point’s ,..even if they don’t look “just” finished,..... .......Blindpig

Re: a few more single notched points

Single notched points occur all over the place. Not all of them are identified or named. I think that's mainly due to what BP suggested - many people assume they are only unfinished points when they find them. Pipe Creek are one of the more noticeable single-notched points and Perino suggested that those were specialized tools, maybe used for fletching, etc. I think some of them could be attributed to trying new things though, or hafting ideas. Western Mexico/NM/TX probably done more of that than anywhere else.

Your double notched points aren't Huffaker, but they do have a name. I just happen to have forgot what that name is off the top of my head *ugggh*. It's been a long day so far.

More nice ones, different. Know very little about points, but something about creating. People always try to pidgeon hole others. Just because these points don't fit what is known, doesn't mean the creator(s) wasn't dead set on making something work. Try it again and again and then try a new shaft, or hafting or whatever. It's just got to be a human charicteristic, that there are gonna be some brains that do it different. doesn't that go back quite a ways? Say several thousand years? Fun to think about.
