Some sort of bowl? Cross Post

I posted this in the "What is it", and it was suggested to me to put it in the Indian Artifact section.

We found this piece recently in NE Wyoming, on a ranch that is known to have a couple of TeePee rings, but I don't know if it even is an indian artifact - or even what it is.

It is not metal. It is not magnetic, it will not sound off on the md at all, in any setting. It is heavy for its size, and looks and feels like stone.

One picture is the side view, the other two are the top and the bottom. That is my hand holding it, for size reference.

    Thanks,

    B

Don't think it is an artifact, Mrs. O, sorry but it looks like a geofact to me, but let the experts chime in...they definately know more than I...

I'll third what Goat said. Neat piece, but natural. Still worth keeping around for the novelty aspect. :-)

Somebody suggested fossilized sh - er - poop. Coprolite?

I've looked up pics on coprolite, and, while it looks similar, in part, I couldn't find any that was small bowl-like in 3 spots.

    Thoughts?

Quite possible, Mrs. O, as a fossil hunter I have come up on pieces that have a perfect hole or the depressions like yours, from what I can see it is possible that a piece of wood or other plant was in that piece and rotted out...

It certainly has been a conversation piece!
