my wife's spectacular find today 1/23/10

My wife came up to me in the field and said..."hey look at this big flat rock I found" My heart rate incresed a few levels when I started rubbing the mud off of it. It is beautful...the pictures do not do it one bit of justice. Is this a blade or scraper of some sort? It is paper thin, I am amazed it wasnt broken. What can you tell me about this? Thanks!

Very nice blade! Remember that spot and check it often, there might be more, it could possibly be part of a cache. I'd probe that area, and dig a 2,3 ft circle around the spot the blade came from. The material is Sonora flint, it outcrops in Hart and Hardin counties in Ky. but is often found in s. Indiana. One of the more sought after midwest materials. Tell her I said congrats, that's a terrific find.

sure, if there's more you'd want to keep them together as a cache, more value and more importance. If you're interested in selling it, I'll give you a reasonable offer.

Since it was found in Indiana, or at least in that area since that is where your info says you are from, I would say it's a Cache Blade of some kind. It sure looks like a Clovis Bi-Face though.

    Killer find!!

Did you wake up happy this morning...............
What a Cache Blade is a Blade that has never been used, that is why it is so round it has no resharpening
A Cache Blade also means there could be more in that little area...............you need to watch and look often in case they had a stack of them out there. It would be time to do a little digging if I owned the land!
Also they need to include Indian Artifacts in Best Finds on this website..............
    Very nice Blade................

Re: my wife's spectacular find today 1/23/10

Here's a woodland cache blade from your neck of the woods wildcatman. It's made from Indiana hornstone. This blade was part of a large cache. Just thought I'd add this to show the similarities in these blades. Although I do agree with SRV, and think your blade is possibly much earlier and it does look like some clovis biface / preforms I've seen.
