    hey

    im digging in a plowed field tomorrow, found 3 points 12 feet apart, what way should i go about doing it, yes i have permision, thanks

    If you are finding points a full day before actually going out into the field, you don't need our help...we need yours.

    The kind of points you are finding may have some bearing as to the direction in digging you will need to go, if they are triangular and you are on a Mississipian site, you will find dark soil mixed with charcoal, clam shell, bone and pottery, stay in this zone and you will do well. If the points are earlier, corner, side notched they may be more scattered. In any case dig down to the hard pan layer and move along. Rich areas may be found by using a hand auger and pulling up samples, red fire burned soil mixed with charcoal could indicate a fire pit and the inside of a dwelling. Three points in that space is good and down below the plow depth may be some nicer pieces......Good Luck

    Rege PA got it. I like to use an auger to see the stratification and hedge my bet accordingly. Good Luck
