I think the first one is a sharpened down broke greenbriar around 6 to 10,000 yrs old? A good refrence tool to help you get started is the book overstreets. It will be a start of many books.
Lots of pretty pictures not always correct but a good way to start.
I do not know what the second is?
You are hooked line and sinker : )

Hello there just joined. Getting back into the sport as I had a Whites Goldmaster when I was a teen, then an Apollo clone (both huge w/ lots of AAs required). I had an interesting experience last week... was just in Santa Fe NM at a Pueblo site. Lots of nice pottery shards on the ground even w/painting plus a nice broken arrow head. I put them back but it sure was very tempting to take some! I did not since it is a National Park and is protected. I put them on an open rock for others to enjoy looking at... I did not have time to search outside the park.

New metal detector to arrive next week!

PS: Where is reply? You hit quote? That is what I did...

Could the one on the left be a heavily resharpened Pine Tree point? Also Early Archaic, I believe.
