went for a little dig after the rain last night and here are the finds. not sure about what type they are but i like em. I also found a piece of pottery about the size of a half dollar that had black hair in it . is that common?
I like the fort payne copena. Nice finds that big red tip was of been huge. I have not seen any pottery with hair?? I would think when heated the hair would have burned. I bet its a un fired example with animal hair in it to help hold it together before firing. That to me would be a very rare find indeed.
My day was a bust just brokes but got permission from the owner on a very desirable area. He was spraying tomorrow and then tilling. The area is so large I am going to take my mtn bike to get around it on the roads.
Take care

there seems to be several strands of hair in this piece of pottery. This may just be wishful thinking on my part...might just be a weed or something. It would be pretty cool to have a piece of pottery with real indian hair. most of the pottery we have been finding has been small pieces, but we are starting to find larger pieces with handles broken off and pieces of bone, so I think we are getting to some better stuff. thanks for the kind comments. btw tn mountain which is a copena that you were talking about? Re: todays 3 hour hunt at the shelter...pottery pic
Looks like late archiac to woodland Tim. They made some great stuff. Looks like the red one may be a Adena or Pickwick. Hamilton triangle is the (small one) and this is the copena. Do you have an Overstreets? Its a good start. Lots of our area are represented with points from around us so that helps me some. That and the other members here.
