Re: A Poll Of Favorite Point Types
tough question, I'm a big fan of beveled early archaic types like lost lake, doves, etc., and woodland and mississippian triangles, but if I had to pick one type I'd have to go with Crowfield, thin, multifluted, spearpoints with masterful paleo flaking.

Re: A Poll Of Favorite Point Types
I have a number of favorites, but one of the top ones would be the Perkiomen Broadpoint. I have not found one yet, but that is a point I have a shot at turning up in SE Pennsylvania one day. Perkiomens are distinctive, often made of the highest quality jasper, and are datable to a defined range (1750-1000 BC or thereabouts). In other words, when you find one, you can say something about its age and cultural affiliation better than "It's a stemed quartz point that could have been made at any time over a 5000 year range". I really like the variety of shapes of Perkiomens due to their asymetrical manufacture and resharpening.
Of course, I'll cheerfully take whatever I can find.

Re: A Poll Of Favorite Point Types
All Great point types, and pictures.
Thirty- Drooling over your Sonora. Did you get my email about the Sonora Dove? I wanted you to have it, but had to let it fly. I might call the 3rd one down in your pics a pinetree.
My favorites: In terms of Midwest, the Cumberland is King in basically every category(rarity, flaking, fluting....). In terms of my collecting reality($$$$), The Ohio Parallel Percussion Flaked Lance is my favorite. I haven't been able to collect one I really like in 15 years.
Pictures are of my Cumberland, and an Ohio Lance I have been trying to buy for about 6 years.
Regards,
Jon Dickinson.

Re: A Poll Of Favorite Point Types
Very nice Jon, that lance and Cumberland are phenomenal pieces, thanks for the look. I have to agree with you on pinetree actually, Whalens called it a dove so I sort of stuck with that but I've always kind of thought it was a pinetree, mostly because of the lack of bevels and the long parallel flaking to the center that creates a slight meridian ridge.
I got an email from you a month or so ago that came into my box as spam, for some reason, so I deleted it. Hate to think what I missed now?
Hey man I think I found my first loafstone a couple days ago, I thought I might send you a pic for confirmation if that's cool. Since you're the loafstone guy. I was checking out some of your hardstone, especially the loafstones in Bennetts Ancient Indian Artifacts book today, awesome collection!
