    NORTH CAROLINA MORTARS AND METATES

THIS IS A PICTURE OF SOME MORTARS AND METATES THAT I HAVE COLLECTED OVER THE YEARS. ALL WERE FOUND IN PLOWED FIELDS, WHILE LOOKING FOR ARROWHEADS.

Re: NORTH CAROLINA MORTARS AND METATES

Those are so cool. When I was in NC, I never really new much about hard stone tools n such. I'm heading back to NC Pitt Co in the morning, I intend on bringing back everything I find. Also am heading to my old fields... I have lots of stones I piled up at the edge of the field. Now i can look through them & know what to look for...
Thanks for sharing, this is helpful.

Real nice collection there, thanks for the look. There are some backbreakers in that group.

Those are really cool. Most we find are in the mtns so it is a back breaker getting them out. I have left several stacks thinking I would come back but never did.
Are yours cupped on both sides? Most of ours are. You have a very nice large collection of them

Looks like a couple or more celt / axe preforms at the bottom right.
