Another one... but this is one is bone.

Okay folks... I imagine you're getting tired of me asking so many questions about this stuff. But check this out! It's definitely bone, and it's definitely had a design worked in to it. I don't think I'll believe you guys if you tell me it's a naturally occurring thing!

Those are actually just growth rings. That is a piece of turtle shell. Not sure what kind, if not near water, could be a box turtle.

    I agree with 'jpitt1970' . . . definitely turtle carapace.

    Beetle,

I'd still look where you found that piece, they are usually a pretty good sign of woodland and mississippian occupations. I remember reading that dogs and turtles were the only two animals raised by North American Indians.

Thanks Joshua... I am finding "interesting" pieces over here... flint pieces and shards and such. It's a new subdivision and the land had been recently moved around about 2 years ago. It is loaded with fossils (shells and such) as well. My youngest son has been over there since he got home from school.

My Ft Ancient sites are littered with pieces of Turtle shell and I even have a nice Pendant made from a highly polished piece.
