    1st post-been viewing for a few months

I've been a long time fossil hunter in Virginia but after checking out a beach below a bluff last year and finding a sweet guilford i'm now hooked on finding indian artifacts. Seems like i'm 20 years too late though, since no one plows around here anymore. The bluff is on a tidal va river and is pretty productive. Everything is quartzite though. Attached is what i found after the big coastal rains a couple weeks back. Another nice guilford that is almost a twin of the one that got me hooked, a possible bifurcate (need id !) and my first woodland triangle were the best of the day, others just broke. I'll post a few more pics later. I'd really like to meet/correspond with other virginia folks that are more knowledgeable than me to share this great hobby with.

Nice rocks-material. I am new to this forum, and artifact hunting also. I can't say enough about the artifact enthusiasm the people on this site have. And all the help they will give. Looks like you have a great place to hunt. Thanks for sharing your stuff. Keith.

Welcome to Artifacts. That is a nice lookin' Guilford straight base. I like the corner notched too. Nice finds all round.
I sure miss hunting out that way.

Welcome aboard. Nice finds and a fun hobby. Member Thirty7 knows the types in your area very well and maybe he will chime in. Looks to be a good spot for sure. Like the bifurcate.
    Happy hunting

Always good to see some fellow Virginians around here. Looks like that tropical storm was kind to you...nice finds. Your bifurcate is either a Kirk stemmed bifurcated, a Nottoway River bifurcated, or a Southampton imo. All three look similar and are usually made of quartzite in your area of Va. I'm leaning towards Kirk because of the base style, but it could easily fall into the other types. Nice example regardless of type. Your bluff spot sounds like a good place to hunt, there's alot of multicomponent and paleo sites in eastern and s. eastern Va. Looking foward to seeing more of your finds.

Thanks for the nice words of welcome and input. I was thinking the bifurcate was nottoway river too, maybe shows i'm getting somewhere finally with being able to id points. This photo is of the two nice guilfords i've gotten from the site. The red quartzite one is my favorite point so far. Also shown is a gunflint i found there too. The "gunflint thread" is how i came across treasurenet the first time.

Couple of nice Guilfords , seems like about 90% of the time they're broken around here. I'm always stoked when I find a whole one. Your gunflint looks like a 18th century, european made, nice one. I've found a few of those in Va.
