I am interested, how do I start?

Obviously points won't register on a detector. What is the best way to dig for points? Are there tools or certain methods that work better? Where should I look? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

anywhere the ground has been turned up recently,,,fields, new developments. etc....also lakes/rivers during droughts when water levels are very low...around natural deposits of chert/flint.....study old maps from late 1700s and early 1800s of your area looking for clues to indian habitation......i found a killer buffaloe kill zone that way with plenty of arrowheads..............gldhntr
