    Workin some slate

This is my first attempt with this, but I can see it working out in time.
I used basic tools...A Hammerstone to knock off the flaky stuff & to thin it.Then I used some fresh flint flakes to shave/shape it.A Spokeshaved piece seemed to work the best.
Then a couple of thin/flat limestone to smooth and polish it.It got dark before I could do much more,So the pics suck & it is still rough.(so be kind lol)

I will show my tools and get better pics tomorrow.Thanx for lookin.

    Re: Workin some slate

Ok here is the next set of pics..
I start out with this...A raw piece of slate..

Here are my over tools for this project.

I scored and snaped it like you do with glass......Once I have the overall shape,I shave & scrape it.

Then shave the lines off like this.

Then I smooth it with this side.

And polish it with the other side....

Well I will keep ya'll up dated..

Well this is the end product..It is the best that I can do with what I have.

Starting out..I knapped the long flake to shave it down.

Yup it got me....(Blood ,sweat & tears..)

I dug this stone the last time I wen't diggin..Made a great polishstone.

    Nice and smooth.

    My helper!

I will send it to you Barry asap!

    Thanx for lookin everyone.....fRANK
