would like a few opinions on a couple thing

hi guys, a friend brought a few things over for my opinion and I thought Id bring em here for a few more opinions from you guys too.

the bowl looking item he found in the middle of the woods in Overton Co Tn. not sure exactly what it is but we kinda though it may have formed in a cave from a drip of something.

the 2 points were given to him, the darker one looks like a Palmer/Pinetree/kirk type to me, the other one I wonder if it is even authentic. would love any thoughts from anyone as to whether either are authentic and or types.
    thx,
    Tree

I'm thinking geofact on the first, like you said a piece of stalagmite probably. I don't really see patina on either, I have found them really clean looking though. But what gets my attention is the litle white areas on the points. Thats like where there is a crack where a piece of the flake didn't completly break off. The tiny cracks should have dirt in them somewhere. Treefrog as a digger, is under your finger nails ever very clean after even a couple hours in the dirt, let alone hundreds or thousands of years for the point. Thats what those litle transparent flakes remind me of, a finger nail. Of corse I have heard of people scrubing them clean with a toothbrush and baking soda!

I'm with All-ATV on all counts. The two points are extremely suspicious due to the hanging fractures. I don't see any mineralization. Although I have some personal finds with hanging hinges, 99 percent of the time they would be removed during freeze/thaw process over hundreds of years. Just my opinion of course....

I agree with the opinions given. The knapper didn't really care to hide that. They really look like points purchased at flea markets. I have seen high end fakes at these places and then there are the lower end ones. Now the first piece, where did you find it. It is a stalagtite. However the interesting part is the difference in patination. The bowl side could be just how it sheared off the ceiling of a cave. ...................................GTP

thx for all of the opinions, yes I was leaning towards a couple fakes, like I said they were given to a friend of mine. the bowl however was found in the middle of a wooded area by this same friend. that is what made him pick it up, seemed strange to be there. it feels like sandstone to me, but Im not 100% sure of that. We both think it is naturally made but sure brings a lot of questions to the mind at the same time.
    thx guys,

Tree the rocks could have blown out of springs from caves. Listen I have points I find thousands of years old with the step fractues clean as a whistle. You would think freeze would pop them off but it is not uncommon at all in the rivers around here that I find. I have numerous ones like that. The last one looks like kinda goofy but it may just be the material. The clear steps in that hornstone is common. We do not have the artic weather of our Northern Brothers.

hey Tn mtns, what would be ur guess on the sandstone bowl?
it doesn't look like the material that would come from stalagmites in caves Ive seen, but Im no big caver either.
We think it is all natural made, but can't figure why sandstone would be like that.

No it is not stalactites or stalagmite but I would say carved by water. Is that what you are thinking? I know that actual stone bowls have been found around the area though. Look forward to seeing your next hunt.
