My First in PA or ever!!!

Spent an hour today cruising a field above the slippery rock river in western PA. We have be pounded here with rain and flood and it looked like a high and dry spot. What type of material could this be. The cleaner edge has a maroon edge which is hard to see in the pic. It looks like a head that didn't get finished. What do you think?

    rimitive one,

That is a piece of grainy Pennsylvania Jasper. The tool was roughed out but never finished. Jasper was precious and every piece would have been attempted to be use. That piece was probably too small to start with, but the attempt was made.

Sorry I missed this post when it first appeared. All of my stuff comes from 30-45 miles from where you found this. However, I've never looked along Slippery Rock Creek. I only have a half dozen pieces of jasper. All appear very similar to what you have. It seems to be of lower quality than what is more common on the eastern side of the state. Keep up the good work. And if you don't already, take your fishing rod with you to Slippery Rock Creek. There are some dandy trout in the out-of-the-way places. I'll try to post some western PA jasper finds one of these days.
