4/15 Finds
I found a new hunting spot yesterday when I was hunting morels. There's a new house or building going up and they built a road right through a high spot that runs between two natural spring creeks. The erosion from the backhoe and several inches of rain has really created an ideal spot. I got skunked hunting shrooms but plan b worked out nicely. H.H.

Some of my best artifacts have come from areas like that, Th3rty7. I love it when big equipment has disturbed the land .
Awesome finds .

Yeah I've always got my eyes open for construction areas in the right spot, they can really pay off. Thanks Sandcreek.
Appreciate the replies and comments. HH

Will trade some shrooms for your finds? Great job! Not warm enough for the morels here yet. Very soon. Perfect timing with spring gobbler.

They're finally starting to pop here at lower elevations. I found 9 blacks and 3 greys today around one old poplar. Still too cold in the mountains where I find the majority of morels here. Yeah I'll trade some artifacts for shrooms, we're close enough that a couple days of shipping wouldn't spoil them I think. I guess packing in dry ice would be the way to go? i'm not sure I've never shipped perishable food before.
What's a typical season of shroom hunting like in your neck o the woods? How many lbs do you usually harvest?
I'm thinking this year they will be plentiful with all the rain we've had. Appreciate the comments fellas.

Third picture from the bottom on the lower right hand side looks like a stone mall. Sidevalve
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave in a well preserved body, But rather to slide in sideways, Totally wore out shouting, Holy ****...What a ride!

Looks like you have another nice hunting spot, nice finds. I've never tried hunting shrooms, but my girlfriend asked me to find her some. I think I better do some reading to learn how and where to find them. Look forward to seeing what else you find at that spot. H.H.

Thanks man, appreciate the comments. I can give you some advice on finding morels in Va. I've read reports that they are up and being found all over the Shenandoah valley. http://www.morels.com/virginia/ The very best places to look are around poplar trees, preferably poplar groves. Other good host trees are Elm, Sycamore, Locust, and Apple trees. The high ridges and mountain slopes are great places to find them. Imo hunting in woods with alot of pines is wasting your time, look for deciduous trees with the types I mentioned earlier.
They are elusive and camouflage well with the forest floor. I like walking up the mountain because it puts them at eye level and they are much easier to see than looking down at the ground. Once you spot one, slow down and look all around you because there are likely more. It's really addictive and fun hunting for them, almost as good as eating the tasty gourmet morsels sauted in butter, or dipped in flour and fried. They taste more like seafood than typical mushrooms. I think they taste like scallops or fried oysters personally. I'm about to go see if I can find a batch right now.
P.s. There is a false morel that you don't want to eat, it has a reddish color and has a cotton like fiber in the middle, true morels are hollow and are dark, yellow, and light grey in color. Here's what your looking for.
* Added a couple in - situs from tonight to give you an idea what they look like in their natural habitat.
