    Not Much

I had a frustrating hunt yesterday. I went 25 miles to a field that is planted in peanuts. I found some fantastic points in the field this spring. I was afraid that the peanuts would have spread too much to look but there are some small fields adjacent to the big field that had not been planted and I planned to look them. When I got there they were planting the small fields and the peanuts had spread too much to look so I went to some land that is 7 or 8 miles away. I looked in three small fields I had never been in before and found 1 chip. I planned to look in some other fields on the same land that I had never been in but they were picking cucumbers at the entrance to a field I would have had to go through to get to the area I was going to look so I went to another field maybe 10 miles away. It has been planted in peanuts but nothing is up and it has had almost no rain. I found the point at the top on the left there. I then went to another field maybe 10 miles away that is planted in corn. The corn is about shoulder high but is pretty much dried up. It was easy to look it. I have never looked the field before and I found scattered chips but no artifacts. It was a long and frustrating hunt.

Today I looked a field that was bottom plowed last year. Last year I found some nice artifacts in it but this year they no tilled cotton in the field. I was pleased to find the point on the top row on the left. It is a colorful point.

It may not be quite perfect, but that upper left point is a nice one. I really like the color of the stone.

It is a rare day that you do not come out with pockets full. I do not know your area at all but dated a girl that their family had a peanut/cotton farm near the Kolomoki mounds. Seems she said there was a creek or river near there. They had boxes full of beautiful stuff and gave me some. The material was fantastic. A lot lighter in weight than what I find but very colorful.

I have 2200 acres in Early County on a creek that I have permission to look but it is 75 miles and I don't look it very much. I don't mind the drive, I mind the footprints I usually find when I get there. Although it is in the same county it is a long way from the Kolomoki mounds.
