Re: matched up a broke
I'm not that knowledgeable on types....yet lol, but I bet if you contact that guy and tell him you don't think it's worth paying to repair and you just want to tinker with it yourself, he would give you some advice. You could go to a place like Hobby Lobby and get some ceramic repair fill and then try and match the color with some paint for ceramics. OR...... Oh I like this idea even better..............send it to me and let me do it.

Man that is killer. I have always wanted to find the other half of something, lol.
You could always frame it specificaly showing the break and label it "Broken Past" ?Put a date on it, it will always be a story piece

Dr. Gomer does a great job! I would recommend him. If you can afford the repair, it will be worth it.

Dr. Gomer does excellent work and is very reasonable. JMO, but I think you'd be a lot happier with the results than if you tried it yourself. Especially if it's your first attempt.

Re: matched up a broke
That is alway's great when you can match a tip to a base. If you are going to try to repair it yourself it is not that hard after you get it glued together, go get some wood filler or a small container of drywall mud like you repair cracks in sheetrock that is water soluable and carefully fill the gaps or cracks and clean up any you get on the stone with water let it dry, go to a art supply store and get one of those sets of oil paints and mix the colors that look close and take a small artist brush and carefully paint the patched areas, it really isn't that hard the only tricky part is getting the color right. Yours look's sort of grey in the photo it should'nt be that hard to match.

Re: matched up a broke
I agree that should be easy enough to do yourself. The wood filler will work or you can use Bondo body filler to glue it back together. Leave on a little excess and after it's dry, carefully carve the excess to match with an Exacto knife. An inexpensive craft paint set from Walmart and a cheap Testors brush will work for the paint job. If you don't get the paint job right the first time you can wipe the paint off with a wet towel and try again.

Re: matched up a broke
thanks Captain Al, rob.s, flintdigger and bede I think I will give it a try, thanks for all the tips.
I just dont think this piece really warrants sending it off. I used to do the same type thing to
antique furniture back in the day and was told I had a pretty good eye for detail, so give me
a day or two and I will post the befores and afters. Once again thanks to everyone for there
help. Good Luck to all and take care!!! wes

Re: matched up a broke
hello natchi and creek, well I have already got it glued and it glued up ok.
Tue. after the 4th i will find something to fill it in with, I have a broke piece that
matches up close. I am thinking of crushing some up and mix with the glue, i'll
try it on something else to see what it looks like after, if no good then i'll try
something else. Thank you for the idea's and we will see how it turns out.
and yes creek I was thinking that it was pretty costly to send it in and have it
done and like everyone else money is tight. so if this doesn't work out
maybe the Dr. can fix me up..
wes..
