    First IL Dalton

When to hunt a new spot at 9am on Sunday. On the way to the spot I stopped at a creek I've found points in this year and found footprints. I hunted it again anyway and found a decent Dalton. One basal ear is broken but other than that it's in perfect shape. It's my first Dalton from IL (I have 3 decents ones from KY) and I believe it's my first Dalton projectile point. It's just under 3" long with good basal grinding.

I then preceded to the new field spot to hunt. The field was mostly planted and it was smoking hot out. Found a pink Burlington Adena and a couple of brokes. Once the field is cut and plowed there should be plently of points to be found. The guy who showed me the field told me he has 'unlimited' places to hunt artifacts, and he doesn't hunt them. Hopefully he's right.

Overall I was pleased with the day. Even with the damage the Dalton is a nice point.

    Re: First IL Dalton

Thanks. This is strange because normally it's disappointing to find brokes but for some reason it's not bothering me here. I've always said I would much rather find a high quality broke than a marginal perfect condition point. I have found a total of 5 artifacts in this creek. I found three of them including this point, within 15 feet of each other, another about 100 feet away, and then one about 1/2 a mile away. I need to figure a productive way to scour the small hot spot. I'm thinking about bringing a rake and seeing what turns up.
