Anyone in south DFW/Johnson County, TX area willing to show a Newbie the ropes?

I've collected coins for awhile now and have always been interested in ancient Roman and Greek history but I was thinking back to some points that my father and grandfather found when they were younger and it has gotten me interested in Native American artifacts. Why spend a lot of time on European history when there is so much in my own backyard? (still gonna read about the Roman's though )

Aside from identification help, is it good to go out with someone already estrablished in this hobby/passion, or is this a mostly go out and learn on your own pursuit? I don't currently know anyone who artifact hunts to ask so if anyone in Johnson County/South DFW is willing to take a newbie out or just offer up some tips, i.e. books or ID guides it would be appreciated.

I'm also about to get a project started for the Burleson Heritage Foundation trying to identify a large amount of on-loan/donated points so I should be posting some pics if I can't find what I need online. Some of the points were found in the area and some were a grandparents collection from Missouri/Kansas. They are not labeled or id'd so that is project. Put a little age and perspective on them for the museum visitors.

    Anyway, any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    James.

Hi James, my name is Larry and I live in Joshua, Tx. I have done some diggin and surface hunting in the area and have found that the best way to go is with someone that's willing to take you...there are plenty of areas near here that produce some really fine points and fossils, unfortunately they are all on private land. I'm interested in helping with your project tho, shoot me a pm and maybe we can work it out. I know I can get you on one place that I go, but with the summer upon us, you might want to wait til fall before we go....goat
