darkwaterdiver
I found this Atlatl hook on my first dive last year. The States ARCH's said it was the best they have ever seen. They estimate around 3,000 to 12,000 years old.

Re: darkwaterdiver
One of the rarest artifacts I have seen posted on here. Definitely "banner worthy". Do you happen to have more images of it?

Re: darkwaterdiver
Seldom seen and in pristine condition! Makes one wonder how they were attached to throwing shaft, dark area at base could have residue of some type of pitch, sap, tar etc. Banner for sure!!!

I have viewed a lot of collections over the years and have only seen one complete atlatl hook
comparable to your find and it was found in north-central Kansas. An extremely rare find!

Re: darkwaterdiver
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you guys would love to see this bannered but it doesnt meet the criteria for the banner so I don't think it's gonna go up there.
Finds must be significant, and plausible.
Finds / posts must be RECENT.
Images must be hosted on the TreasureNet server.
Posts with great stories are more likely to be selected.
If the post is one of the members first posts, it is less likely to be selected.
Finds must look good in the banner.

Re: darkwaterdiver
I don't make the rules and I'm not saying it absolutely wont make banner, I was simply posting the banner criteria.

Re: darkwaterdiver
I know peachy. And wasnt meant to be mean or anything toward you, but how can we define recent when we are talking about pieces that are thousands of years old? I am a mder as well as indian artifact collector and would much rather see a indian relic up top than say one of the 4 slave tags or spanish reals or the many buttons an bullets i have dug. Native artifacts just hold a much higher value in my heart than the modern relics we find.

Re: darkwaterdiver
LOL you're preaching to the choir. That;s why I have quit detecting altogether. After I found an Indian artifact, held it in my hands and thought of just how old it actually was, it kind of ruined any excitement of finds from metal detecting. I will bring this up on the mod forum because some things are just too amazing to not show on the banner.

That is a find of a lifetime! I would love to see more pictures of it from different angles since I've never seen one in person. Congratulations on that piece.

Re: darkwaterdiver
Wow. Seriously cool relic.
No offense intended, but it looks like a couple of the teeth have been buffed a bit, I hope you don't do anything like that to the atlatl hook.

For that special someone. Can ya diggit?
Re: darkwaterdiver
Very very cool find Joe.
As for Banner, it would look good up there IMO, but........I can't go along with it being that you found it so long ago, well before even being a member here. But that shouldn't be taken as to diminish the find or importance thereof.
