That is a very nice blade you have found. It would help to know where it was found and its size. Various cultures made similar artifacts as "form follows function". You can be proud of that one.

It was found in Indiana. The length is 3.5 inchs, it's 1.75 inches across it widest point and it is .25 inch thick.

Welcome to the forum! It looks like the base is rounded, and if so I would lean towards Adena blade. We'll wait and see what others have to say.

God knows I gotta throw my two cents in here- Not to dissapoint but this type of artifact in very difficult to date unless found in situ with other types. You will have people slap all kinds of names and dates and cultures on this but the fact of the matter is (like badandy said) these were made by a number of different people during different times. I would like to say that I really like the color on this one- very nice, appears to be good flaking to, I would be very happy with it. Did you find any other artifacts at the site that this came from? It may help date this one.

    Re: first post and questions

thanks for the replies, I have found numerous points, but none quite like this. I alway go huntin after a good hard rain here at our farm. this point/blade was so out of the ordinary that I had to post it. I have found what i think are called woodland points (perfect triangle)and the ones that resemble a christmas tree also and some drills and what I think might be scrapers. Could anyone explain what makes a point versus a blade?

Like badandy said.... I'd put my money on an Adena. I have found a few cache's of blades like that on the site that I have hunted. I found one with 13 blades and they were buried about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch on top of each other. Keep your eyes open because there are probably more...
    Nice blade.

Happy Hunting and keep your eyes on the ground.

Nice Knife / Preform. I'm with CM on this one and too tentative to associate it with one culture. I don't see anything about it that screams to be a concrete association with a singular peoples. I have seen similar forms occur with too many (Hopewellian, Adena and a myriad of others). Regardless of what you want to call it....nice find.
