not sure if these are scrapers or just thin rocks

Im just outside of Chicago and I was out detecting along the river when I came up on an washed out storm drain from the street. The cutt was 15-20' deep and I seen rocks all along the bottom so I climed down and picked up these 2 rocks. They are very skinny compared to they width and pretty straight but they are in ROUGH shape. I was wondering if they could be old scrapers or are they just washed out rocks. These 2 were the only thin rocks I could see. Thanks for your help.

I don't see any evidence of either ever being altered by man, ie: any flaking of any kind. So I say they are just natural rocks, not Scrapers

Your items have all the earmarks of ancient tools, knives or axes possibly or other butchering tools. Ancient tools have several elements in common beginning with a fairly uniform edge around part or all of the circumference. It will have chips taken out or be ground to define this edge. Your items appear to have some of these elements so likely ancient tools.

Treasurefiend - I'm with SRV in that I don't think they're scrapers. Mark is also correct though, that you're segregating the right stuff from the wrong. Also you score points for climbing into the ditch to retrieve the rocks. Sometimes you get out of the truck and there's a point laying there. Other times you have to work you butt off to find a broke. Do you collect artifacts at all is this your first adventure into the world of ancient stone tools?

"All the earmarks of ancient tools"? I've always used the standard that SRV mentions "evidence of being altered by man". I'm not saying that SRV is right or marko0001 is wrong though.

Thanks for the feedback, yea this was the 1st time I looked for points or anything. They are not commonly found around here and when they are found its totally by accident like digging in a garden and stuff like that cuz our 2 rivers and creeks are brown and cannot see thru the water and the rivers/creeks are all mud and not rock based.

Bro ur in a great area if ur willing to drive a few miles. I have found points just east of gary indy and i know guys that find artifacts west of chicago. Dont limit ur self to creeks or rivers hit farm fields look for humps hi spots or hills close to a water supply ie rivers or creeks. And just start walking with ur head down, after getting permision of course! Good luck n happy hunting!

I'm with SRV, Twitch and 1320, no sign of any flaking or workings by man..... Just because it has a shape that resembles something doesn't mean it is something, Mother Nature forms billions of billions of rocks and millions of them look like something, but they are just rocks...Keep walking those creeks and streams they are there, you just have to find them....
