Its old, but is it Clovis??

    Morning

Well had fun over the Labor Day weekend....Came across a couple of points. I wouldn't call them great, but they are old. If you use your imagination, you might even call them Clovis....at any rate they are paleo and really got my pulse going. Tell me what ya think.

    Atlantis,

Those are some really nice points. Glad to see that you were able to get out and find such beauties. I will be leaving here in about 30 miniutes, They finally got the lake drained enough to hunt one of my better spots. Thanks for posting them, Just gave me the kick in the butt that i needed. Congrats!! HH

Awesome Atlantis! Let me ask you what makes you think they are not Clovis? If you would post pics. of both sides of them and a side shot that would help. I would say for sure that the first one is Clovis. I think I see ground basel edges and I know I see a flute. Looks as if it may be translusent too. I'll be looking for the other pics., but great finds still. I have to work hard until after the leaves fall off the trees before I will be able to go out again.

    Hey Andy,

I can make some more photos.....Here we find a lot of Clovis like points...allens, midlands, Dalton's, milnesands, meserves etc. I guess I just want to see that perfect channel flute going up a point to call it Clovis. The first one has grinding and is translucent. The other is made of a quartzite type material and is rather thick as that type of point goes.

There have been two perfect Clovis points found in my general area on the lake...at least the classic Clovis with perfect shape and channel flute. Made from a gold chert type stone. Both are rather small one 2" the other a little less. One last year, one this year. Neither I can prise loose from the owners...LOL

I am hoping to find a few more good paleo points before the lake comes up again, but these did help my feelings a bit....was not having too much luck the first few weeks. Now for a WHOLE spear point or two and while I am wishing a nice axe and celt...

    Happy Hunting

Good deal! You must have one heck of a spot, because I'd love to find even one Paleo point. I have yet to find one so that's why I buy'em. I'll be looking for the pics. and if you let your friends know that when they want to sell those points to tell you I'm sure they will. Take care bud.

Nice stuff- I would call the top one Clovis culture too- I'm sure you've picked up on this already but the typology thing gets me going I hate trying to put a new name on every little variance amongst points (There are some points named one thing but then the re-sharpened version of them is named another agh...) There are a lot of "look alike" clovis points- I agree on that but I would also say that a good number of them were made by clovis people... Picture some clovis people sitting around the fire making points for the next hunt... "let me see. ((brother to brother)) here... hmmm.. new point good... hmmm.. no, you're going to have to toss it, it's not identical to mine." Do you know what I mean here or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I'm with ya Cannonman! Way to think outside the box. If more people would do the same who knows what we all could find out.

    Hey Andy...

Here are a couple more photos of those old points. Both sides of the two I posted earlier. Ever notice how most points have a good side and a bad side.....just like people I guess....lol

    Afternoon,

Thanks Andy.....I will just call them paleo. When I find one I am sure is a Clovis I will post it. I want that good rectangular flute with flat top...lol They are out there somewhere. Just a matter of time. Meanwhile, I will just be happy with my small daltons and San Patrice points. Going to spend several hours looking this weekend...might get lucky again.

    Happy Hunting,
