Re: a bird or crane effigy
SWEET ....Why so many cranes?Did they think them to be living gods like the Coyote?

Re: a bird or crane effigy
These pieces are just too cool Steve. That would be the ultimate find to me. They had to be treasured objects since they are so well made and so highly decorated.

Re: a bird or crane effigy
after a long visit with the the person i think has the most knowledge of this subject it is a very strong possibility
that this is an effigy of a horse head
i can show the similar images that could support this idea
thanks steve

Re: a bird or crane effigy...... TERRY, HERE'S MORE, CHECK THE REST OUT
Lars!! i can see why it could be called a horse head effigy. none of the carin effigies seamed to have the eye drilled all the way through to start with. and the nose is shorter and thicker at the tip yet does not look broken even has what looks like a nostril showing. the mouth slit is a mile shorter not like the ones on the beaks of the carins that go all the way almost to the eyes. the first one in second set of photos had tally marks under its beak or jaw but no x as did horse. any thing i missed tell me. Terry
