    Sorefoot, where abouts in S. Illinois are you? I have some family land out that way, couple hundred acres that gets farmed in Gallatin County. Haven't really had a chance to look it yet though.

    i agree with Sifter!! a scottsbluff but i think it has been used as a knife in a rib bone handle on its side. the cutting edge resharpend lousing the shoulder on that side,

    I don't believe it's a Scottsbluff. The area he's hunting is primarily a Late Archaic to Middle Woodland occupation. There are small pockets where Mississippian points show up. Early Archaic points are fairly rare there. Even Benton would be earlier than most for the area. If it's an earlier type I'd think Harpeth River is a likely candidate.

    Either way it's a nice point. Good find Matt.

    dlos - Those points came from either Pope or Massac Co. IL.

    Looks like it has early flaking,is the base ground at all,like said it may be a lancolete type blade though,nice never the less!
