    couple Conn. heartbreakers/ anyone help on broken paleo?

    large flint blade with broken tip is from a gravel operation along a river bank, broken paleo has no base anyone have any thoughts?, flute goes full length on both sides. Been told it's not clovis

    Thinking you may be right on the cumberland, been doing some research and found a site that shows cross sections, never realized there was a substantial difference, but mine matches a cumberland's cross section and long flutes! Thanks for your input!

    If you found the fluted point in Ct., then it's a lot more likely to be a Barnes point then a Cumberland.
    They are very similar in appearance but the fluting technology is different, though both are often fluted from base to tip. Lucky find broke or not!

    BTW, in calling it a Barnes, I used the most recent typology for this region: A New England Typology of Native American Projectile Points(2008) by Jeff Boudreau. Pretty pricy for the size at $40 plus postage, but it's the best for this region to date. You can find it on the web page of the Massachusetts Archaeological Society(MAS) if you want to check it out.

    Beautiful old piece regardless of what type it is. I love finding the old stuff whole or broke. You've got some awesome artifacts!!!

    Fluted Paleo ! Regardless of type... Great finds I'd be spending more time down at the old Gravel Quarry Thanks for the look see ! Kris
