    help with pipe

    i found this pipe while walking in the woods. it was sticking out of the ground by half in..
    could anyone tell me about its history and how old it could be. thanks

    Nice pipe. Did you detect the area? Those date 1830s to 50s I believe, we used to find a lot of them in Savannah.

    1830-1850s seems about right. I know that somewhere I remember reading/seeing a chart that could date trade pipes according the diameter of the stem hole. My prof. had a set of wires, all different gauges and by fitting the correct one to the stem hole was able to date most pipes within a period of time (i.e. made 1820's - 1835) etc... I haven't been able to find a copy of it though...
