Underwater cam

Thinking about an underwater pole cam for searching in the river for relics. Has anyone ever tried it? Got to think about how to recover once relic is found too. Pole sand scoop?

I never gave that any thought but.. I don't think it would be a very efficient way of looking for them unless you had an area with a very high concentration of artifacts, I would personally go to the river bank, find some farm land and walk the fields before I would try the camera thing. That or wait til the water levels are low...or walk the river bank- specially areas with errosion, or walk exposed gravel bars...

Water has to be super clear or you will be wasting time and money.

Sounds good to me...You can see where other can't..We have a new machine like that here for the water lines and sewers..Maybe I should run off with one when I go back to the states.

Aqua-Vu has a line of under water cams for fishing that might work for that.

I think Harbor frieght has one for about a hundred+ bucks, couple that with an under water DC light bulb... you'll be able to see. Pcloaboy has one.

Such a technique will only work where visibility is high AND there is no bottom sediment. Finding that combination will be hard....even flowing rivers normally have a layer of dark sediment over the bottom rocks which obscures them from probing eyes.....tried it in the lake here...the muck on the bottom..even in sandy places... made finding anything difficult.

Like Cannonman said, you are wasting your time unless you have an area with high concentrations of artifacts. I always had better luck checking the shallow wash areas of the lake with a five gallon bucket with a plexiglass bottom. There the natural washing uncovers the artifacts and they are shallow enough to just pick up without much fanfare. Good luck whatever you try though...never know what will show up.
