    Pottery Shards

    These are some of the pottery shards my son found on the sand bnars of a local stream. Can't wait to find a full pot.

    Very nice, DC. I found one that is more of a uniform shape like the one is the upper right of the pic. That made me happy, cause most of the time it's smaller shards I find.

    Those are some nice pieces. The one on the top left is some type of "stamped" pottery. The Indians made a pattern on a piece of wood or some other object and rolled it against the clay while it was still soft and pliable. It causes a really pretty effect. Sometimes they used pieces of cord or bark to stamp wares.

    If you are like me you, when you find big pieces of pottery it is normally plain (undecorated) When you find a really pretty piece of engraved or incised ware, its normally the side of a quarter or 50 cent piece....go figure....LOL

    Many is the time I could swear I heard laughter when I found a really nice but broken piece or point.
