    Re: Creek Hunting

Hey Trev, I'm still trying to figure this creek hunting out too. One thing I have found out is that it is a lot like trophy deerhunting or trophy catfishing, in that you will save a lot of time if you start out in areas that have produced trophies before. Unfortunately, folks won't always share that info. One thing I would say that might help in picking the right creeks, is look for ones that run thru narrow deep valleys. If your used to finding a lot of stuff in plowed fields, then creek combing might seem a little slow.

Creek walking is not all that hard but it also depends on what kind of creek your going to be walking, I used to walk a lot of creeks but I would do it after the first big rain and I always walked up on side and back down the other looking at the banks, Unless the creek is small walk against the water so the silt doesnt cover up what you are going to look at

    Re: Creek Hunting

I just spent about 8 hours the last 2 days hunting a small stream that runs thru a woods, all i found was one core made out of red jasper,Im kinda upset I didnt find anything being the fields around this set of woods have produced some good finds kinda stumped why I found nothing but that is how it goes,as far as creek hunting goes take it slow and be prepared to bend over alot I think it also helps for it to be sunny out.

    Re: Creek Hunting

I love creek hunting where some of my best finds have come from. Ive found that sandbars and cornners where stones plie up are hot spots. Creek banks are good to because that where most of the points come from. Im familar with the material colors in the area, white, blacks, greys and try to zone in on those colors. I also look for shapes. Best to walk against the current, and sometimes of the day are better than others as you dont want to be looking in to sun glare off the water.

Everyone pretty much covered it all. I have some tricks I use, but I cant share them, because it took me years to learn'em.

    Re: Creek Hunting

I'd like to try creek hunting this year. I'm like Trevmma and Bean Man, I haven't had a whole lot of experience with it. I've seen some really nice points come out of creeks.

Check creek depth and watch for boats sorry couldnt resist......
Seriously I would keep an eye out for places where streams connect. Also for spots along the creek up the bank where its flat and would hold an encampment.

Here's what every creek hunter needs, some type of waders. These are the ones I decided on. They came from cabelas today. To bad there is a blizzard outside.
