    Couple of celt frames

Here are a couple of frames of some celts and hand choppers that I have found here in Kentucky during the past few years.

    Re: Couple of celt frames

Hey Johnny X! Thanks for posting! What's the weather like in your part of the country? I had the idea of walking a field today, but it is snowing like crazy! It was in the upper 50's to low 60's the past couple of days and now this. I guess this is typical Kentucky weather in March. You can wear shorts one day and snow boots the next. You just never know around here!

Nice to see them displayed and appreciated! All too often I see these sort of tools in a box under the display or for sale really cheap labeled as "worked flint chunks" or some other silly thing like that. Everybody (myself included I guess) like to look at, find, and show off the top grade points but all too often the utilitarian type pieces get swept under the rug. If we really want to piece together what ancient life was like and how these resourceful people lived, then these types of things are every bit as important- IMO Again, NICE display!

    Re: Couple of celt frames

Thanks for the post Cannonman! I agree with you. A lot of times tools are overlooked by collectors. I have a friend of mine who won't keep a drill, scraper, or celt. He will keep a hardstone celt, but that's about it. He was walking a couple of rows over from me one day. He picked up something and then tossed it aside and said "Another dang drill". I stopped and asked him if he was kidding. He said that he only keeps points. After I found and picked up the drill, I asked him to give any others that he found in the future to me. He laughed and said that he would. He's a great guy, but just doesn't care much for tools. I generally keep any that they made, points, blades tools, etc. You can learn a lot about them from their tools.

    Good luck!

    Re: Couple of celt frames

I would rather go hunting with your friend than mine- we see a drill and both dive for it, sometimes ending in a crash. After it happened a couple of times we finally worked out a deal where the first person who is able to shout out "FOUND ONE!" has rights to the artifact.

Thanks Badandy! I walked many rows and many hours to fill those two frames! I enjoyed every minute of it!

Hey Adena man, I know people like that also. They will leave scrappers and other tools in the field and only hunt for points. I call them "Glory Hunters". LOL
Me I take all worked on pieces and keep them sorted seperatly.
    Great tools!!! Love the photos!!!

    Re: Couple of celt frames

Thanks for the post Zeawolf! Every now and then my buddy calls and tells me to look in the bed of my truck. I go out there and find a couple of drills, scrapers, or engravers that he has left for me. At least now I've got him saving them for me instead of throwing them in the creek!

    Good luck!
