    Found this in a river

    Hi all,
I posted this up in the "What is it" forums and they all seem to think it's Indian in nature. They suggested I post it here. I found this in the Olentangy river in Delaware, Ohio about 15 years ago or so. There was a bunch of Indian activity in this area. If it helps the item appears to be baked clay. Also, if this help, there was some kind of mill about .5 miles upstream at some time.

Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Erin

Re: Found this in a river

Hey Dingode! That one is hard to tell. It seems to be pretty good size by the pic. It almost looks like a face of some sort. It could have possibly been naturally made (maybe a geofact). Does it have any marks on it that would indicate it had been worked on by human hands? Maybe someone else on here may have a better idea of what it is. This one has me stumped. Could you get a side view of it?

When it comes to anything but the obvious......I'm a rookie. It is an interesting piece that needs investigation. I'm very curious. I've been power pagng through my books, but not much luck, wish those dang things had a good index. I'll keep looking for you.

Odd. I don't see any tempering at all on the piece? Is it possible that it's a historic piece that was a "part" of something? Like a part of a heating element or something? Dunno.

Cool! looks odd. to me it looks like it had 3 pieces of wood in it at one time. Maybe a base for a cooking hook or one end of a rotisserie? Al in all...very cool.

Hmmm...that is interesting to say the least.

Not sure if it is Native American related or not.
Are you still in the Delaware area? I currently live in Delaware and know someone that would take a look at it and possibly be able to tell you something about it.

    Hi Rock hunter.
I live in Toledo now, but will be in Delaware next week for a few days. The person you know wouldn't happen to be Brent Carson would it?

PS I can bring it with me if you like. I found it right be the bridge in 23S, right where carriage town car dealer is.

    hello again,
I'll try to get side pic's posted soon, but I'm pretty busy getting ready for vacation. The sides are pretty much just flat.

    Thanks again

    Hey Erin,
I sent a link to this thread to the person I told you about. He had no clue as to what it is.

    So I was no help!

    Have a good vacation!
