I found this Kirk in my home county on a Ft. Ancient site. This one proves that there were indian people inhabiting this site a long time before the Ft. Ancients! Unfortunately, there is an ancient ding on the top notch. Other than that, this blade is in great shape. It could really do a number on a steak! It has serrated blade edges that are still very sharp. I found this in 2004 about 5 minutes from my house. The site is now a hayfield.
Nice! The material looks like carter cave. Why do you say kirk on that one? Looks like a notched base dove from the pic. Either way I'd love to have it in my collection.

You know, I thought about that. I guess the notch in the base kind of kept me thinking Kirk. I am so used to seeing the flared tail doves from IL and other places. I haven't really seen one with a notch in the base like this. It would be the only dovetail in my entire collection!
It is a Dove. The base is probably ground smooth. Kirks are usually lightly ground if at all. Nice find.

Hey Ohio! After reading the posts from you and Badandy, I looked a little closer for the basal grinding. It is ground pretty smooth. I hadn't seen a dove with the notch in the tail before. Nice to learn a little more! Thanks for the input!

Re: Kirk Corner Notch
If I recall (and I sure could be wrong) you have posted another dove. It was badly damaged but, still a dove. It was, if memory serves, tan and quite wide in comparison to length. But, I am almost sure you have found another dove. Nice finds.

Hey Jeff! I've begged and pleaded with the owner to plow it at least one more time. I even told him I would plow it! He just grinned and shook his head. He said "You and those indian rocks".

Re: Kirk Corner Notch
Adena this is the other notch base dove that I was speaking of. Nice pair of personally found doves. This one should have basal grinding as well. Nice finds.

Hey Ohio! I had almost forgotten about that one. It is definitely worn out! Looks like it was broken and then salvaged the best way that they could. I had put it in one of my storage boxes. Thanks for posting the pic and reminding me!
