    Newfinds from the riverbank

Went Mon to the spot I found a couple of weeks ago. Had to look a little harder, but found a few. Checked another spot and almost every rock there appeared worked. Everything was very crude. The lower right item came from this spot and I found several other very crude broken points. I want to check this spot after the next good rain as I think there are alot of points there to be found. The Stanley? in the middle also came from there and has evidence of fossils in the matrix. It is VERY light and brittle. Can't wait to hit it again!! Happy Hunting!!

Ummm.... can you take a good scan or picture of that longer point in the lower left... it looks like it might be OLD!

Matt- Why do you think that's a guilford? Because of the poor workmanship/flaking/material?

FMarion- are the basal edges ground smooth at all?

Not having alot of experience identifying basal grinding, I will hav to defer you guys to the pics below. These two were found w/in 1/4 mi of each other. They have very similar morphology, in that they are smoother and flatter on one side, and rough flaked and convex on the other. I adjusted the brightness to try to remove some more of the shadow from the edges in the photos. I will say that the basal 1/3 of the recent point (on the left) appears to have had some additional work on it to smooth the proximal edges and seems to stop just below the max width of the proximal edges as you go toward the tip. I don't know if I'd go as far as calling it edge grinding(as I am not an expert in the area), but these points are very crude to begin with. The earlier find, on the right, has no indications of any attempts to smooth the basal proximal edges imo. Pics 4, 5, & 6 show an implement from the same area with the same characteristics and material of fabrication (some sort of sandstone, I believe) it is convex on one side with large crude flaking, and fairly flat if not smooth on the other. Maybe an unfinished project?? Ther is a TON of pottery in this area, I'll post some next week.
