    Help Identifying

Hey guys havent posted in a while. My Freind found this the other day and we cant seem to decide exactly what type of point it is. I have lots of books on spearpoints but none of them seem to match. Could you guys help me out and tell me what you think. I am in the NC area. Oh yea I forgot to metion, this point is broken in half. He found the tip a couple month ago, and about a week ago he found the other half. He is very lucky, idk how he did it. haha.

    check it out.

I don't know the types from your area, but it looks like it could possibly be Paleo!

    Re: Help Identifying

    Hello there,

My little book calls that a Wheeler early Archaic. Thick basal edge,
    widest point near the base.
Older than the McKean that is found in the west N.C.

    Hope it helps,
    Bruce

Cool, and the Wheeler is actually transitional Paleo/Early Archaic!

Hiya Bad, I'm in NC too. Is the base broke, or is the hafting area ground?

It is broken in the middle other than that the base is fine.

I think the guys are correct, shame it's broke, but at least you have the two halves, nice find..

    Re: Help Identifying

I don't see any grinding at the base or up the hafting area, so it's definately Archaic.

    Re: Help Identifying

I would have to actually hold a point to determine if it has basal grinding as in most cases it's just too difficult to tell from a picture. The basal edge is a little bothersome to me as it almost appears snapped- could be a trick of light in the pic though also. Pretty good size for quartz, and then to find both pieces! Nice and interesting point-
