My Latest Acquisitions

My camera was messed up for awhile, but I bought a new one. Now I can take pictures of all of the stuff I've picked up in the past 6 months.

This is a bannerstone that was given to me by an elderly gentleman. He didn't know the provinence of it, so I can't determine whether it's a reproduction or authentic. The material is not naturally shiny. I rub all of my stone artifacts down with baby oil to moisten the stone, and bring out the natural colors and features. Any thoughts?






Next is a Clovis I picked up earlier this summer not very far from my house.




Then their is the Dalton I found on the Ohio River sticking out of the side of the bank !



Finally, I have what appears to be a "War Hammer" or what a buddy of mine calls a "Head Knocker". It has the shape of a small ball peen hammer. You can't tell from the pic, but it's perfectly symetrical all the way around.



I have a few more items like 2 axes and 3 plummets, but I'll post pics of them later.

Where was I when that dalton started coming out?
How did it look in the bank? Have an in-situ? That just doesn't
happen every day. I bet somebody heard you pick that one up.

It only had about 2 inches sticking out, and I swore it was broken before I started digging it out. I would have missed it on a normal dry day, but it had just rained a few hours before, and the dirt was a darker color than the flint. If it had been any other day I would have missed it. I picked that one up in a totally different area from where you were. I'll take you there sometime. The thing about that river is you can hunt 4 or 5 days straight and only pick up flint or nothing at all. It's the 6th or 7th day you go, and the conditions are just right. I'll take you there sometime. It's 15 ft. banks straight up, and you have to dig foot holds so you can scale the walls if you see something. I'll take pics next time I am out. The Dalton was about 7 feet down the bank underneath 5 ft. of silt deposits. You'll just have to see it to believe it. It's great hunting. You really get a work out hunting those walls like that.

Fantastic really nice. The Dalton the best I've seen.
What do you suppose the Clovis flint is? I have one
simular close to it. It was found Stuben Co, In.

I think the clovis is probably sun bleached Hornstone. I've seen weathered hornstone turn a pale gray when it's been out in the sun for awhile.
