Pottery bowl identification help needed

I got this bowl today and it is interesting looking. It has a smiley face mark imprinted on it. Can anyone tell me anything at all about it? Is it an individual just making a statement or is it a maker's mark? Thank you.

Looks like a student or amateur mark to me. It is pretty neat though, isn't it
