Help with makers mark

I am a Historical Archaeologist and specialize in bottles. I am having
trouble though locating the MFG of a certain bottle.

All I have is the base. On the base is a G within a diamond. On all the
sites I use it is listed as an unknown MFG. Anyone care to comment?

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up when it all seems so stupid?
