Some headstamps of 45-70 cartridges found in Arizona.

This is a mixture of shells I've found. the two on the right end are centerfire 45-70's, the top one being a carbine (C) 450 grain dating from August, (8) of 1880, (80). The "F" stands for Frankford Armory. The bottom one is from March of 1878.

I still have about 10 casings and around 15 more bullets to mount when I get another frame.

I see they are all centerfire, I have never seen a rimfire 45.70. or heard of one but then I am not a archergloist or how ever it is spelled.

    Cool finds!
Were those found at a site of a skirmish? It's gotta be fun finding pieces like this where you can dig into the history.

There's a hill top, with a rocky outscropping, out of Tombstone, that I came across,
    Yrs ago,
That cropping, has a pile of old .44 cal (?) cases lying in a pile close to the outcropping
I can only guess, but, it sure looks like someone, way back, when!
    Had a gun fight there, indians/sheriff ??
I didn't pick any of them up !
They may still be lying there
    I can guess,
    But!
One of these days, I guess, I should go back and photo/collect them ?
