Hike into the Superstition's for X-mas
Had a few 4-5 hours to kill, went up hog canyon looking for something of particular interest to me when I spotted a cave way up that looked like it was blackened with camp fire smoke so i diverted my trek and made the climb Took up all my time trying to reach this cave, found an interesting name on the ceiling as well as some iron wood logs that someone had to hump up to the cave to use as a ladder................Plus some critter shots

The El Gato was a really interesting find, as there are story's of an El Gato "Mexican" or "Spaniard" in the supe's that made maps of the area back in the day. Also found a tent and a rolled up blanket stashed in the cave, Guess they just didnt wanna carry it back down the mtn after climbing up there

Re: Hike into the Superstition's for X-mas
It's nice to be out at this time of year.
We've run into gilas in Az, but always out in the open, in the warmth.
I did however, underestimate the snakes quite awhile ago - (years) I was sure they were gone, we'd had cold, cold weather. Saw this round hole inside an old mine, and I took my flashlight to look into it. Surprised me - there was a snake with a hold of a kangaroo rat!!!! (glad he was busy, that could have been a real problem - and I don't do that anymore).
Glad you are back, by the way.
