ISO kid sites for metal detecting. anybody know any?

We live in Mesa. My son got a metal detector for Christmas. Does anybody know anyplace fun for kids to search for metal? A shiny rock site would be great, but we aren't picky.

Local schools and parks are usually ideal starter locations. (Check first with authorities to be sure that it's okay to detect there.) Your son should at least find some shallow recent coins— easy targets for a first-timer. If there are play areas with bark chips or sand, those are even better, because digging isn't a problem.

Also, be sure to spend some time checking out your own lawn.
