What is some of the safest equipment for getting around in the mountains available?
What about the easygo. john deere or what ever that looks like an all terrain
golf cart?
If I was there I could make a good guess, except for what would stand up under the heat. That takes someone who is in that area and has experience with these mtn goats. Newt

Looks good, but I am wanting a mule type instead of a pony with a mini-skirt and lipstick. I carry enough junk to live out there a while, plus water and prospecting equipment. What I was really talking about is a four wheeler ATV. From my camp I can take the MD and wander around on a mountain goat looking for some good rocks, black sand or maybe an old relic site.
That X-90 is a fine looking vehicle but people like me should not be trusted with something like that, I would trash it up. newt

get an old army jeep.
DJ, Been there, done that. If I could find one I might figure out how tow that thing. The first one I had was a WWII Jeep left above the artic circle almost new, I figure they left it in 1945, and I got it outta that cave 1950 along with some good beef quarters and 5 gal cans of coffee and other canned goods-
Thats the first time I got the gold bug from one of the six guys, he was from Alaska.
We didn't find gold but found copper, and I notice the Danes are minning now.I went from there to the Sahara Desert. Found lots of coins and artifacts in Libia and Turkey,Greece and Monte Negro. Didn't look in Korea or Veitnam, well, I did find a mine or two..
After the MDs got popular and I got one, I lost my luck , find pop tops, nails and its getting hard to find a place to prospect or MD. G'Day Newt in Texas

There's an old Jeep for sale up the road from me. It's got a tow hitch on the front, so you can pull it behind your truck/whatever. Not sure what year it is but I could get the info for you if you wanted. It's the perfect "prospecting" jeep :)

See what you think, cond. etc and let me know. I may try a trailer, be easy on a jeep. I believe they hold up better in the rough. I guess its because you seldom get over 10 to 20 mph. Thanks , Newt

The Perfect device for getting around in the mnts is
A good pair of Boots! ::)
And!
Be in shape to use them.. ;)
A human being can go places no mechanical device can ever hope to go! :o

IE:
Get in as far as you can, a 4x4 is best, set up a BASE CAMP
And!
Then! Put on those BOOTS!
I am speaking for yrs & yrs of actual experience

That was my 2wd Trail Bike called a:
ROKON!

As far as 4x4s go,
A good running Suziki Brat is a good one
They have excellent mpg and are pretty good OTR vehicles
If you can find a used one...They'll run $1500 +
If you'd like to see one...go to the "ATV or WHAT TOPIC"
There's a photo of a new Suzuki
That's very, very similar to the older Brat!

CptBil, I will go check out the Suzuki.
Always had some good boots. I walked over a lot of the world with one pair of Gorilla Jump Boots that I had a heavy duty zipper put in the sides.

I don't see how the Arabs got by in the Atlas Mtns on sandals made of car tires.LOL
Maybe it was cause they cruised around on donkeys or camels, you reckon.
I would really like a mule but you got feed them and if they get mad they kick.
You take that Suzuki park it and forget it. Maybe a little gas.

I found something else I want, a Colt 45 Long, so I can use a couple of round of 410's in it for snakes. I had some hand loaded 357 with bird shot , 9s, I think.
That works great in a revolver.

Well the Jeep was pulled back behind their house for some reason..so I don't know what's going on. If they put it back out I'll let you know.

ATV's in my opinion, is a wise investment ...... and the possibilities are .... well, it's a no brainer. Gear up for a weekend ..... then 'roll out' ..... to the 'diggs'. A 1500 pound load capacity ..... is a lot of 'stuff'.

If YOU! can get in with an ATV, then someone/anyone else can or already did! ::)
They just aren't worth the trouble of hauling around,
Great for riding around and making lots of noise,

But!
Have you ever walked UP ON A COYOTE ?
Or!
A big mule deer ?
I have! :o
But! an ATV!
They are really limited in their usefulness!
You certainly don't have to believe me! :-\
Come out on a trip with us and you'll see what I mean!
AND!
Remember! I am not talking about,
NOR!
do I, BacPac in! :-\
PS!
I have Burros ....three of them!
I don't use them either..
As you mentioned they're TOO MUCH TROUBLE! :-\

CptBil, You are talking Turkey. Sounds like those Turkish Mtns. to me, an ATV was worthless there, tried horses twice and that was a failure.
I got boots, and some of those strange shoes you are supposed to hike in. I will stay with boots. GNewt
