MacArthur park was a US Government Arsenal in 1837 and used
by the Confederates during the Civil War. In 1893 it was donated
to the city for use as a park.

Little Rock hosted the 21st annual United Confederate Veterans
Reunion on May 16 through 18, 1911,

<a href="http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd296/dcb1265/9-08/?action=view&current=8-27-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd296/dcb1265/9-08/UConfederate2_f.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

An estimated 6,000 veterans were expected to attend but the
reunion drew more than 140,000 people, including approximately
12,000 veterans, making it the largest event in Little Rock history
until William Jefferson Clinton’s election night in 1992.

The city erected a veterans’ camp at MacArthur Park,

<a href="http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd296/dcb1265/9-08/?action=view&current=8-27-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd296/dcb1265/9-08/ShaverCamp_f.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

They even had a hot air balloon,

<a href="http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd296/dcb1265/9-08/?action=view&current=8-27-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd296/dcb1265/9-08/UConfederate1_f.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The camp was named for Confederate Colonel Robert Glenn
“Fighting Bob” Shaver of the Seventh Arkansas Infantry, and
Shaver served as commander of the camp during the reunion.

In this photo of soldiers at the reunion, Shaver is the third from
the left on the front row,

I believe this is where the recent finds I made at MacArthur Park
came from,

In 1965 I was in the Sons of Confederate Veterans. We camped
out at MacArthur park during the CW Centennial and made musket
balls for curious on-lookers.

This is one of those I found over 50 years later,
