Antique Canvas Painting

I bought this old painting at a second hand store about a year ago or so.. I do not know if it is worth anything. The painting size is about 29 by 22 inches, At the bottom right corner it says: to Captain Claus as a souvenir from Germany signed, Modeola.
So if anybody can identify it.

Don't know anything about the artist or Captain claus.

But - it looks to be very well executed and its a great subject. My gut say's it has substantial value.
