Metal Detecting In Australia!?!

Can anyone tell me if i need a permition to hunt arround australia with a metal detector and were can i get the permition from, and if its allowed or not?

There's lots of good sites about metal detecting in Australia - just google 'Metal detecting australia' for a start. Different Australian states have different laws and permit systems so it depends on where you're going. For instance no permit is required in New South Wales whereas in Victoria you need to get a "Miners Right". You can generally detect in State Forests but not National Parks.
