First time this story has been told. Here is a short clip about it.

Those guys went through hell, my old icon was my grandpop in his Jeep in Korea. His friend in high school asked him to enlist with him in the USMC after graduation but my grandpop just landed a job and said he would just wait to be drafted which he was a few months later into the Army. His friend went into the Marines (I think the 1st division) and was killed not long after at Chosin (I think within a matter of 3 weeks after arriving in Korea he told me). I have his yearbook now with the comment the guy wrote in it right before he enlisted, I remember him showing it to me a few times over the years since me and him were big military and history fans.

My father was in Korea in 53. Was there for the last few months of the war. One of his childhood friends froze to death in a foxhole a couple of years before.

Not sure about "first time this has been told", Chosin has been a legend in the USMC and students of military history for decades.
Truly a hellish ordeal, its amazing that any survived to tell the tale, and will always be a testament to fighting spirit and the sheer will to survive.
