A Great American has gone ahead

An American hero has passed away...

"Richard "Dick" Winters, a decorated hero of World War II and the central figure in the book and miniseries "Band of Brothers," has died. He would have turned 93 years old in February." (Source - CNN.com)

It saddens me this Great American is now gone. May he rest in peace.
I respect your opinion, but not when I know better.

I am also very sad to hear this. He was a extremely great man at a time when America really needed some "great" men and America found them, we found them by the millions.

There were over 13 million American men in the Army, Navy and Marines during WWII, and 400,000 American Military deaths during the war. Now we are down to less then 2 million WWII vets left alive and they are dying by about a thousand a day and that is sure to increase by the week as they age.

We owe Dick Winters and the WWII vets dead and still alive a debt we can never repay, without them we would be speaking either German or Japanese now, most likely the languages divided by the Mississippi river.

He was an embodiment of a great American and I am very saddened about his death. WW2 vets are going to be all gone when my kids are grown and I think back to the great men of that generation that I have had the privilege to share friend ship with and listen too over the years.
The Band of Brothers mini series is my all time favorite and the best part is the beginning when the vets are talking. True stories of true heroes.
    God and country.
