OMG, January 1968 Fort Knox KY, Echo 17-5...who can forget Agony and Misery hill...that long march to the ranges.....a damn measles outbreak followed by a bunch of folks getting Mono.....then off to AIT at Fort Sill..all hell broke loose when Martin Luther King was killed....first riot on a base that I ever heard of....but..the Artillery was still much better than walking everywhere. The funny thing was I always looked up at those damn helicopters flying over....many years later I was flying over in Hueys...always loved giving guys on the ground a ride.....a great 32 year career.

Calling All Army Dawgies - When and Where did you go to Boot camp.
I wanted to fly choppers when I was in but just never tried and to this day I regret that. I spent time at Knox but did basic and ait at ft McClellan. I was an mp spent most of my time either overseas or deployed. I wouldn't trade my exp but wish I would have tried to get into flight school. Anyway thanks for your service everyone.

Great group of guys I worked with and I loved it over there.
Delta Co, 2-58 IN, Fort Benning 1995. OSUT. I am still Active Duty, I never imagined I'd go for the long haul. lol. My retirement packet has been submitted and if approved I will start PTDY in April. 3 months and wake up!
Go for all the retirement you can get! My father retired as a Major with 41 1/2 years service. Fun part for me was I fixed the same helicopters he used to fly.
Grandfather served Navy WWI
Father served Army WWII
Uncle served Navy WWII
I served Army GWI
Good for you, I retired in 95 after 20 years. That was my plan and stayed with it. Once I hit 20 I was ready and never looked back. My training helped keep me employed until I decided to quit working altogether.
